The Sherman Town Board met in regular session Tuesday, January 3, 2017 @7:30 p.m. at the Sherman Town Hall.  January 3rd meeting was canceled due to low attendance. Members present: Lee Ellis, Cheryl Swenson and Robin Berg. Members absent: Bill Benson and Gerry Karpen. Others present Sandra Sutton.

A new meeting date was set for January 10, 2017.

The Sherman Town Board met in new session Tuesday, January 10, 2017. 

Members present: Gerry Karpen, Bill Benson, Cheryl Swenson and Robin Berg.

Members absent: Lee Ellis.

Karpen called the meeting to order.

Others present: Sandra Sutton.

Approval of the Agenda: Motion by; Karpen, second by; Benson. 

ROUTINE BUSINESS: Minutes of the December 6, 2016 meeting was approved as read, Motion by; Karpen, Second by; Benson.

The treasurer’s report was approved as read, Motion by; Karpen, Second by; Benson.   

CLAIMS APPROVED TO BE PAID: Xcel Energy, street light $275.31, park light $46.80, town hall lights $19.01; SECOG, annual dues $197.00; Minnehaha Community Water, Nov. water $23.50; Palisades Propane, propane $168.58; Lucas Swenson, 7 ½ hrs plowing $90.00; Robin Berg, signs $38.92;Christmas party supplies $70.92, 6 table covers, ink for printer $28.97; Cheryl Swenson, stamps $47.00;

OLD BUSINESS: "OUR NEW PLAYGROUND EQUIPMENT" Meeting date set for Sunday Jan. 29th at 4:00 p.m. @ The Bullet in Sherman. Please join us, to get some plans started on the new equipment.

 

Proposed Revision of Sherman Municipal Ordinances Adopted in 2007, 2nd reading, Revision of Sherman Municipal Ordinances 2016-2, Said paragraph 4.0305 is hereby amended to remove the restriction of the sale of alcoholic beverages on Sundays provided the ‘on sale’ establishment meets all other requirements set forth in 4.0305. Motion by; Karpen, to approve Revision of Sherman Municipal Ordinances Adopted 2016-2, Second by; Benson. With a vote of 2 yes motion carried.

 

Alleys, should not be blocked, letters will be sent out to residents.

 

The Sherman Christmas party had a great turnout; there were 16 children and several adults as there was lots of fun for all. A big Thank You to Tom Coburn and Stop & Shop for supplying the pizza.The kids loved it! Thanks to all the volunteers that helped out planning and making the party a success.

 

NEW BUSINESS:

Set salaries for 2017, will stay the same, President will receive $30.00 per meeting, Trustees will receive $25.00 per meeting, Town Clerk and Treasurer $500.00 per year, Zoning Administrator $200.00 per year.

Appointments: Town Clerk, Robin Berg; Treasurer, Cheryl Swenson; Town Paper, The Garretson Gazette; Town Attorney, Dean Hammer.

Town Hall may be rented, the north side only for $20 includes tables and chairs.  Tables and chairs may be rented separately for $10.  Town hall use is free to residents of Sherman S.D.

 Rezoning applications cost $50.00 and ten dollars for application, twenty dollars for each add in the Garretson Gazette paper. Motion by; Karpen, Second by; Benson. For all to stay the same as 2016. With a vote of 2 yes motion carried.

Publish Board Vacancy. One two-year term on the Sherman Town Board. One three-year term on the Sherman Town Board. Deadline for filing nominating petitions is February 24, 2017, 5:00 p.m. Earliest date to begin petition circulation January 27, 2017 Petitions may be obtained and must be returned to the Town Clerk by calling 605-594-3757 or 605-359-2481 Robin Berg Town Clerk

Town Hall outside light in need of repair, Karpen will get it fixed.

The Council requests that Karpen apply for any additional playground equipment grants as they become known from now until May 1st, 2017.
